The Princess Bride is one of the greatest movies of all time. Saying anything otherwise would be absolutely, totally, and in all other ways, inconceivable. It has everything: swordfighting, torture, a giant, revenge, a pompous Sicilian, and, above all, romance. (Yuck!) It’s one of the very few movies that can combine ultimate manliness and superlative mushiness into the end-all theater experience.

We remember back when we were kids and our elementary school had only three VHS cassettes. If the teacher played Willow all the girls groaned. If she played The Last Unicorn all the boys moaned. But if she popped The Princess Bride into the TV? (You remember, the heavy, old-fashioned kind that had to be strapped onto a metal cart so kids wouldn’t get crushed if it toppled?) Now, that was always a surefire crowd pleaser!

If you’re in love with the greatest love story ever told, then the Dread Pirate Roberts’ timeless words of endearment must always run through your head. Oh man…prepare for us to get nerdy! When it comes to the best movies ever made in the history of the entire world, we think it’s pretty safe to say that Princess Bride tops that list. After all, like the grandfather says, it’s got everything: “swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing.” And every character was great, and every scene was so totally quotable that it’s almost an event in and of itself, trying to figure out which one is a personal favorite. Which, why should you? All you have to say is “Iocaine powder” or “I do not think that word means what you think it means” in order for everyone else in the room to look at you with both recognition and respect.

And while, again, it’s almost impossible to have a personal favorite, let’s just all agree that, in the span of movie history in regards to revenge characters, Inigo Montoya has to at least make the Top 10 list. For instance, did you know that the scene from the film where Montoya finally kills Rugen was ranked #86 by IGN in their list of "Top 100 Movie Moments”? Yeah, it’s that spectacular and satisfying!

We admire the Dread Pirate more than we can say. For not only did he out-smart his enemies more than once, he was brave, cunning, and dapper as hell in his pirate outfit. Seriously. All black with a mask and sword? Can you say dashing? Cause that's what he was. Dashing.

So if you're considering being a pirate yourself, please do the world a favor and be the lovable roguish kind, like the Dread Pirate Roberts. As a matter of fact, why don't you just be him?
