The anamorphically enhanced DVD exhibits sharp and detailed images with superb resolution and clarity. Color fidelity is fully saturated, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Sometimes the picture appears digitally harsh, with minor compression pixelization. There is little visual information in the darker scenes, but contrast is nicely rendered. Due to minor inconsistencies, the picture is sometimes mediocre, but viewers will not be disappointed with the image quality of this creepy thriller. The anamorphic and letterbox aspect ratio measures 2.32:1. The foundation for the remastered Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack appears to be a 4-channel printmaster, since the surround sound, while aggressive, is lacking in depth and dimension. The music, however, takes advantage of all 5 main channels, but also has a boomy presence. While .1 LFE activity was detected, it was not extensively utilized.

The anamorphically enhanced DVD, viewed in component video, exhibits excellent contrast and shadow delineation, with superb visual information in the darkest scenes. The picture is extremely solid, with exceptional sharpness, color fidelity, clarity and fine detail, even in backgrounds. This is an exceptional visual presentation that exhibits such good clarity-it's scary. The anamorphic and letterbox aspect ratios are framed at 2.35:1. The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack delivers an exciting sound design with a dynamic presence that will have you jumping out of your seat. Bass impact is deep and powerful with very effective .1 LFE enhancement. Surround envelopment is aggressive with effective split surrounds. The music score is spatially dimensional, wrapping into the surrounds. Dialogue sounds natural throughout with generally good spatial integration.

The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits an excellent picture. Images are sharp and detailed with excellent contrast and shadow delineation. Colors are rich and bold, with nicely balanced fleshtones, and deep, pure blacks. The picture is very solid and clean, with only the slightest edge enhancement noticed. Minor pixelization is also detected, but is not overly obtrusive. This Dolby® Digital 5.1 soundtrack features an usually high dialnorm offset at -10dB. As a result, the audio is lower in overall volume level than is usually encountered, and thus some of the dynamics have been compromised. The soundtrack has been nicely recorded and produced, though the reduced listening level ultimately affects the intimacy of the listener with the movie experience imparted by the audio. The voices seem to have natural tonality, and intelligibility shouldn't be a problem. The utilization of dimension in remarkable, with substantial surround engagement at times. Deep bass impact is notable with some .1 LFE activity, considering the inherent reduction in loudness to the soundtrack.
