Plot Summary:

Strange things begin to occur as a tiny California coastal town prepares to commemorate its centenary. Inanimate objects spring eerily to life; Rev. Malone stumbles upon a dark secret about the town's founding; radio announcer Stevie witnesses a mystical fire; and hitchhiker Elizabeth discovers the mutilated corpse of a fisherman. Then a mysterious iridescent fog descends upon the village, and more people start to die.

Adrienne Barbeau's last line, "...look for the fog...", echoes the last line from The Thing from Another World, "Watch the skies." John Carpenter later remade that film as The Thing.
Bennett, The handyman with Father Malone in the beginning, is played by an uncredited John Carpenter.
The coroner is listed in the credits as "Dr. Phibes", an in-joke reference to the Vincent Price character, Dr. Anton Phibes.
The band mentioned on the radio near the beginning is "The Coupe DeVilles", which features director John Carpenter.
