John Landis
Birthdate: 03 Aug 1950 Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois, US John Landis was born in Chicago, IL. Shortly after his birth, John's family moved to Los Angeles, CA where he later attended school until the 10th grade. Then, in 1968, he became a mail boy at 20th Century-Fox Studios and soon after, went to Yugoslavia as a "go-fer" on the film "Kelly's Heroes" which is also the time in which he wrote "An American Werewolf In London." Over the next few years, he worked as a stuntman, actor, extra, production assistant and writer on various films in Europe and Hollywood. At age 21, Landis wrote, directed and starred in the title role of his first feature film, "Schlock," a spoof of B-horror flicks. At age 27, he directed "Kentucky Fried Movie" and "National Lampoon's Animal House," both of which became huge hits. Having established himself as one of the industry's most commercially viable and acclaimed young directors, he quickly followed up these successes with "The Blues Brothers," which he co-wrote with Dan Aykroyd and directed, then the smash hit "An American Werewolf in London", which he also wrote and directed. |
